A pediatric dentist is a dentist who went to additional schooling to specialize in treating children. This specialty training involves treating children while the child is sedated if necessary, and performing more specialized treatments like root canals on baby teeth. Many general dentists see children as well, however if the child has extreme anxiety or lots of cavities it is typically best to see a pediatric dentist who is better trained to successfully treat these cases without causing a bad experience for the child.
