What Is a Bridge at the Dentist

A bridge at the dentist is an option to replace a missing tooth when there is a healthy tooth on both sides of the space. The teeth on both sides of the space are shaved down and the bridge is fixed over the shaved down teeth, connecting them over the space and filling the space where the missing tooth was. Bridges can look very natural and last a long time, however if a cavity develops under any part of the bridge, then the entire bridge has to be replaced. A dental implant in the missing space is another option that does not involve shaving down the teeth on each side of the space where the tooth is missing. Dr. Eastwood routinely places both dental implants or bridges depending on what is best for a patient’s mouth long term.
